DEREK KASCHL

DEREK KASCHL

My name’s Derek Kaschl and I’m a Senior UX/UI Designer. Over the past 10+ years I've been working across multiple platforms – print, web, mobile apps, and SaaS (Software as a Service).

Utilizing User-Centered Design principles, my objective is to locate the sweet spot where user experience, technology and business goals intersect.

A BIT OF HISTORY

Originally from Canada, I was working in London before relocating to North Carolina with my family. A history buff, I completed a BA in History. That somehow led to B2B corporate sales at Xerox where a visit to Xerox PARC was a “wow” moment that showed me the intersection of technology and creativity. Wanting to pursue my creative nature, I then studies Fine Arts in Montreal. A design course piqued the interest ignited at PARC and my focus switched to graphic design. Working on websites, interfaces and mobile apps led me down the path to UX. The rest is, well, you know...

GRAPHIC DESIGN PORTFOLIO

Although my focus the last few years has been in UX/UI design I'll always have a passion for graphic design and illustration. Here are some examples of design and illustration work:

GRAPHIC DESIGN

My first work as a designer was doing graphic design for web and print from catalogs, logos, websites to media players. Here's some examples of the design work I've been engaged in.

ILLUSTRATION

It all starts with illustration for me. You'll notice I always start wireframing with pen and paper - there's nothing like it for generating ideas. Here are some examples from painting & drawing (I even had a solo gallery show of my paintings) to digital illustration work.
